Frederic C. "Buck" Dumaine
Jr., President of the New Haven Railroad from 1951-1954,
ordered 40 Budd RDCs between February 1952 and June 1953.
Buck Dumaine’s plan was to re-invigorate New Haven passenger service with the RDCs
covering secondary assignments, and a dozen ‘railbuses’
covering lightly used branch lines, all feeding passengers to mainline express trains.
Patrick B McGinnis ousted Buck Dumaine, and the railbuses were mothballed and
eventually sold.
The RDCs, however, enjoyed a long life, longer than the New Haven lasted!
This set chronicles some of these units from delivery through the mid 1980s.

The set comes with two sets of virtual passenger views, standard and Open Rails only. To
use the Open Rails versions
(RDC1_VCab_OR.s, RDC2_VCab_OR.s, RDC3_VCab_OR.s), rename the existing virtual views to
RDCx_VCab_MSTS.s,
then rename the OR versions to RDCx_Vcab.s.
